Lions, tigers and bears 1 (Mike Bullock/Jack Lawrence)

Lions, tigers and bears

Cuddly toys are actually protectors of children from the beasties that lurk in the night.

I remember reading issue one for SBC a few years and reviewing it. I said I wanted to read more of this excellent comic. So, when the chance arose I got the first trade "Fear and Pride" and read it first from the pile.

I'm not disappointed, Lions, Tigers and Bears is a really lovely, imaginative, magical comic. Following the adventures of Joey and his protectors (who are all cuddly toys brought magically to life) as the beasties try ever harder to execute their devious machinations.

It may sound childish, and it is, but the joy of the comic is the way it makes you forget yourself and brings out your inner child. Reminds you of things lost like joy and imagination.

I honestly believe anyone could enjoy this imaginative comic and revel in the joyful experience of reading it, young or old.

The art is perfectly suited to this work. It is youthful, colorful, energic and cartoonish and works extremely well with the subject matter. All manner of cuddly toys given life are rendered in Lawrence's lively style. It all just flows and is never jarring or inconsistant.

It's a fun comic and it all just works really well. It's just excellent in every respect and I commend it to anyone.

Summing Up:

Recommended for children and all those who haven't forgotten their inner child.
