Giancarlo, a wealthy, handsome vampire, helps rescue beautiful blond Jenny from an assailant when she’s in a shady side of town in The Reformed. Giancarlo befriends her and takes her to a diner where the two engage in some verbal sparring.
During the course of their meal, the two are attacked by waiters who happen to brandish weapons. Giancarlo, looking to defend Jenny, whom he now finds ravishing, kills the two, and he flees with Jenny.
As Giancarlo and Jenny begin to get closer, there are mysterious killings all around town that shake up the local police force. Unfortunately for the pair, Detective Frost has some theories and he’s hot on to Giancarlo’s tail.
From there, the plot takes a couple of turns that find the relationships among Giancarlo, Jenny and Detective Frost change radically.
The plot would have been great. But there’s a few key points that really needed some more fleshing out to make the story feel really integrated to the art. One point is when Detective Frost begins to get on Giancarlo’s case. The detective’s suspicions seem to come from nowhere, and it’s a bit disconcerting. The move forward in plot seems too abrupt; something seems to be missing.
The art, although pretty good with its dark moodiness, sometimes has a rough, almost sketchbook-like quality that makes the whole seem a little unfinished. But that’s a minor criticism in an otherwise very good artistic output. The cover, both front and back, likewise features fantastic art.
All told, The Reformed needs just a bit more polish. Although what’s there is pretty good, it would have been better to have a few scenes fleshed out to make the plot flow a bit smoother.
