Gacha Gacha: The Next Revolution Volume 6 (Hiroyuki Tamakoshi)

Del Rey Manga

Gacha Gacha: The Next Revolution Volume

Publisher: Del Rey
Genres: Romance, Comedy
Rating: Mature (18+)

The sixth volume of Gacha Gacha: The Next Revolution starts with Akira Hatsushiba and friends on a vacation on a desolate tropical island. Akira has a chance to be alone with a girl he has a crush on, but, of course, he sneezes, transforming him into a girl.

After returning from the trip, the volume takes an interesting storytelling twist by telling the same story — or at least parts of the same story — from the perspective of three different characters. It’s an interesting device that allows all inner thoughts of the three characters to be known, but the story itself isn’t a huge success.

The last story involves Akira partnering up with a girl in his class to help produce this year’s school festival. Again, the story is lackluster and doesn’t help spice up the lives of the characters.

Gacha Gacha doesn’t seem to have a very strong connection going for it because Akira seems to be too uninteresting of a character to hold the series up as the main character. The only interesting thing about him is that he transforms into a girl when he sneezes, and it’s a device that is used too often in the series.

Gacha Gacha would be better if the sneezing device weren’t overused. It’s hard to take that leap of faith that the secondary characters won’t notice that Akira the boy is gone and Akira the girl is there after the sneeze. The storytelling device used in the middle of the volume really helps push this offering to be better than the last.

6.5

Summing Up:

A lack of lead characters and an overused plot device make this volume a bit lackluster.
