Akitsuki Yamato finally returns from his shopping trip with the girl he used to have feelings for. But he went on the shopping trip only to have her help him find a present for his girlfriend, Honoka Sakurai, in Suzuka.
When he goes to Honoka’s house to give her the gift, she is happy. And Akitsuki admits that he went shopping with Suzuka, but Honoka tells him she knows since she spotted them yesterday. Akitsuki is relieved, but when he talks too long about the shopping trip, Honoka shoves the gift back to him and tells him he can have it back.
Honoka is just too hurt that Akitsuki couldn’t stop talking about Suzuka.
Akitsuki vents to his friends and Suzuka about Honoka giving the gift back, and everyone seems to have the same opinion: Akitsuki is an idiot when it comes to girls.
Akitsuki tries to apologize, but that doesn’t go over well. Eventually, the two sit down to talk it out, but the end result certainly isn’t what they expected it to be. Suzuka finds out about the news and she confronts Akitsuki. Unfortunately, he makes another verbal blunder and alienates Suzuka, too.
For the rest of the volume, Akitsuki spends his time trying to get straight mentally. It’s just a difficult task for him since he’s so clueless when it comes to relationships.
The facial expressions served as the main template through which the art was conveyed. It was particularly noticeable in this volume, which had such up-and-down emotional moments.
Suzuka developed quite a bit in this volume, but that really was just the plot. The characters, meanwhile, didn’t seem to fair much better, unwilling to learn from their pasts. Akitsuki seemed to be in the middle of an inner struggle during the second half of the volume, and that struggle should play out in actions in the next couple of volumes.
